ABOUT me

My name is Hannah Massey and I am a senior at Wakefield School, located in The Plains, Virginia. Following my graduation, I will be attending The University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall. I wrote my Senior Thesis on examination of the importance of Gothic literature. Gothic literature and the idea of the vulgar and sublime has always interested me since Junior year. I was exposed to the concept of Gothicism/Dark Romanticism and the impact Romantic writers while taking AP Literature and Composition. I wrote my Junior Thesis on Black Humor and I was determined to write my Senior Thesis on Gothicism. Through the Honors Senior Thesis experiences, I was able to fully explore the Gothic novel while creating my own definition of what Gothicism is and why Gothicism should not be overlooked.
